March 23, 2009 I Loved “Lincoln!” Posted by American Heritage Staff at 07:00 AM EST What does Abraham Lincoln mean to us today? Harold Holzer in “Lincoln’s Legacy” may have summed it up best when he pointed out that although Lincoln was the least qualified candidate when he pointed out that although Lincoln was the least qualified candidate when he ran for president, his accomplishments rank him today among the greatest of American presidents. Thank you for this special section, one particularly relevant for those now preparing to lead our nation. Imagine, what our nation would be like today if Lincoln had not been elected president. Certainly a much greater and longer lasting tragedy for all? Jerry E. Stephens Edmond, OK
March 18, 2009 Spring 2009 Issue a Delight Posted by American Heritage Staff at 07:00 AM EST Like a surprise out of the blue, I received a copy of your Spring 2009 issue, and it was a delight to read. I was a steady subscriber in the past, when you published in hard cover (with no ads) and then in the soft cover (with ads you still use), and I continued until some “publishing house” contended that I pay them to maintain the subscription. I did not, so I am in wonder how you came to find me these years later. In any event, I am pleased to send my check to renew my subscription, for two years, so you can “keep the important stories, issues and personalities in front of the American people.” For the time being, I shall tell a friend of your magazine (also how it has come back into my life), and hand him a card for a trial issue. Liked especially the articles on Wall Street’s Rogues and the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots. Keep up the good work. Owen B. Walsh Madison, CT
